Nurturing Thursday 9

SCHOOL’S OUT!

We’ve finished our last shift as cleaners at the local college. And now we’re at home and looking forward to the Easter Holiday. Two weeks off work. Whooohooo!

Time to relax and replenish my energy and ~ if the weather perks up ~ do a little work in the garden. It’s been a bitterly cold, wet Winter, so there’s much nurturing to be done. I’m hoping to clear the weeds and prepare the ground ~ and maybe plant some vegetable seeds, (indoors, at least, if not out.)

But even if it rains I intend to make the most of it.

I’ll cosy up with some knitting or crochet.

Or Martin.

And I’ll most likely eat some chocolate 😉

HAPPY EASTER, EVERYONE!!!

I nurture a passion for notebooks, in all shapes and sizes. Covers with exciting patterns and textures attract me; The unrealized potential of the blank pages inside allures. If I track down one I desire I find it irresistible, even when I don’t know what I’m going to use it for . If they’re on sale, I’ll grab half a dozen.

I hand write in my books, with pens in different colours depending on my mood. Morning pages…sketchy poetry…half~outlined plots for novels. Rants about things that bug me. Scribbled telephone messages…website addresses…doodles of cats and flowers. Lists of potential characters and place names and of books that I really ought to read. (But probably never will.)

One of my special favourites is clad in raspberry silk, embellished with opalescent sequins. I’m filling it with inspirational quotes, which are meaningful to me. A few of the leaves have come loose and. the edges are stained with purple ink. But this random compilation of wise words, across the ages, is the most nurturing book that I own. : )

Nurturing Thursday 7

Today and for the next month, I’ll be nurturing myself every morning, by taking part in Deepak Chopra and Oprah Winfrey’s 21 Day Meditation Challenge. The last one, in November, was for Abundance, this one’s for Health.

A different meditation is emailed to me each morning, complete with music, mantras and explanations on how the course is building. And a private journal to reflect my progress.

It began on Monday and it’s already working. Following on from a heavy cold, my sinuses had been completely blocked and I’d been unable to smell or taste anything for several days.
Weird.
Not in a good way.
Although, now I come to mention it, the latter was a bonus in my embryonic days if scooping Indie’s poop up. 😉

Anyway, as I finished the first meditation, I found that I could breathe. My head was clear and taste and smell returned ~ a mixed blessing, as you may guess! 🙂

Nurturing Thursday 6

i’ve never been skinny and I haven’t paid any attention to my weight since I met The Artist. He assured me that curves were far more interesting to him, than sharp lines and bony angles. So I threw away my bathroom scales and concentrated on improving and maintaining my health. Whereas, once I couldn’t walk to the local shops, without getting out of puff, I’m hardly ever out of breath now.

Even when I’m weighed at the surgery, I ask the nurses not to tell me. They respect my wishes ~ my blood pressure is textbook and I hardly ever visit the doctor, with the exception of minor ailments and routine checks. So I’m fine as I am and I’m grateful to be able to say that.

But it hasn’t always been that way. I’ve put myself on numerous diets and eating plans in the past, allowing the plus or minus of a few ounces to colour my entire outlook. Flipping through a box of old snapshots recently, I as astounded! There in my hands was photographic evidence that when I thought, for years, that I was fat, I was surprisingly ‘normal’. If I could have believed that then, I would have saved myself a great deal of angst and prescription medication.

Ironically over the past week or so, I’ve noticed that my clothes are a little less snug. One reason for this is that I have to climb several flights of stairs in my job now, which I didn’t before. It’s better than any gym work~out, and I get paid for it!

In addition to that, Indie is walking me twice a day, which works on different levels. I’m directly interacting with the elements and communing with nature, whilst nosing around the neighbourhood. (Looking at other people’s houses and gardens is fine if you’re attached to a dog! ;))

When we return home she goes crazy, racing round and round the dining table, in an anti~clockwise direction. Then she flops down and snuggles up beside me on the sofa. Now that’s my new definition of nurturing! 🙂
